Overview
“Soldiers Plain” is one of the better known buffel and dry land farming properties on the Glenmoral Roundstone Road, west of Theodore. The property is fully developed to cattle fattening and grain production.
Nearly all of “Soldiers Plain” has been farmed at one time or another. It is fully contoured and currently under heavy buffel, Leucaena , Dolichos Lablab, with 980 acres set aside for winter and summer cropping. The property is located at the head of the catchment with three water courses. There are 3 major dams of comprising 2 x 60,000 and 1 x 30,000 cubic yards, and 4 other good size dams.

“Soldiers Plain” has been in the McClelland Family for 3 generations. It was originally developed in the early 80's by the late Bruce McClelland and his wife Sharyn who originally came from Victoria. The first crop was taken off in 1984. “Soldiers Plain” is currently operated by their sons Craig and Grant.
The property has successfully grown a broad variety of crops including wheat, sorghum, barley, cotton, chickpea and oats. There are currently very heavy stands of Dolichos Lablab and Leucaena for immediate cash flow to a purchaser.
In 27 years of farming on Soldiers Plain a wheat crop has been planted and harvested every year with their exception of one year in the early 90’s when 76 ha failed due to dry conditions.
Cattle and cropping highlights on “Soldiers Plain” include:
- A big 2,772 tonne crop of prime hard wheat that was harvested in 2005 off 660 ha and averaging 4.2 tonnes per ha.
- In the same year 1,500 tonnes of sorghum was harvested off 500 ha giving an average yield of 3 tonnes / ha and 237 tonnes of Chickpeas taken off 76 ha averaging 3.11 tonnes / ha.
- 150 tonnes of Dolichos Lablab seed was harvested off 100 ha returning $720/acre last season.
This is an opportunity to purchase “top” country in the Theodore District. This property can be turned over entirely to cattle fattening or predominately grain.

Situated 35 km from Theodore on the Glenmoral Roundstone Road. 60km from Moura, approximately 250 km from Gracemere Saleyard and 262 km from Rockhampton.
